There are three types of projectors available in the market such as long throw, short, and ultra short throw projectors.

Long-throw projectors are usually mounted on the ceiling, wall, and shelf to get a bigger image size on the screen.

UST projectors are kept four feet away from the screen to get a larger picture size on the screen.

Short-throw projectors are generally used to get large image sizes with a distance of fewer than 6 feet, so they are known to be used in small to medium size rooms.

So, then the question arises should you mount a short throw projector permanently on the ceiling or wall?

Should You Mount A Short Throw Projector?

Short-throw projectors can be mounted on the ceiling, but it will not be as easy as the standard ones, which are made to be mounted permanently.

To mount the short throw, you will first check the manual guide to know how much distance is required to produce a picture size of 100″ inches on the screen.

Because for short throws, you will need special mounting equipment to do it on the ceiling.

Advantages

Disadvantage

  • Short-throw projectors are not made to mount on ceilings or walls.
  • The image quality might degrade a little bit.

Short-throw projectors are useful in classrooms, conference rooms, and other places where we want to experience large-size pictures in limited size.

Ultra short throw projector is used in smaller rooms, or there is no option of mounting them on the wall or ceiling.

These UST projectors produce a picture of more than 100″ inches less than 2 feet away.

Generally, these models are mainly used in smaller living rooms, apartments, and bedrooms.

Can Ultra Short Throw Projector Be Mounted On Ceiling?

You can mount the UST projector on the ceiling with special mounting equipment. But UST projectors are not designed to be mounted, and if you do that, the image quality will be lost.

So, they are made to be placed on tv shelves or tables to project pictures from a short distance.

Also, if you still prefer ceiling mount the UST projectors, setting up and focusing an image will be harder on the screen.

Drawbacks Of Mounting UST Projectors

There are no advantages to mounting them on screen, but the drawbacks will make you think twice when mounting UST models.

Short Wires

As they are designed to place near the screen, the power cord will be much smaller than what you will get with standard throw models.

Low Audio

Almost all the UST comes with premium sound quality, but their speakers give excellent audio, but the sound level is low as they are mainly placed in small rooms.

In UST units, speakers are situated at the back, which will get trapped when mounted close to the wall.

No Mounting Option

These Ultra short projectors are not designed to be mounted on the ceiling because you cannot flip the image on the screen if the mounting process is done.

Heavy In Size

These short-throw units are heavy in size, and if you decide to mount it, a special mounting bracket is required to hold them on a wall.

Also, you will need a helping hand to mount it and focus the image on a flat surface.

Not Good For Eyes

Almost all the UST models have their lighting system as a laser, which makes them last longer hours than traditional projectors.

But when these models are mounted at a distance of a few feet away, chances are you will often look into the laser light making your eyes harmful.

If you are going to mount your short throw projector due to space or any other reason, then there is special equipment available to mount it on the wall.

But if you plan to mount UST projectors, it is recommended to go for a long throw model designed to be put on the ceiling.
