Detailed Guide On LG HU70LA Review
Design
First, let’s talk about the design where the LG has made it compact with a weight of less than 7lbs, which is easy for those viewers who like to take their projectors to a friend’s place for a movie night.
The body gives a premium feel when taken right out of the box. The manufacturer has used high-grade plastic that will last for many years.
On the top, the LG has kept simple menu buttons where you can control volume up and down, change settings, and even set the image alignment according to the screen.
A ventilation system on both sides helps the hot air pass through them quickly. There are also internal speakers (sound below average) which are hidden.
Sound
The sound quality was below average, and I would not have expected LG to provide low-quality speakers in such a price range.
But thanks to them by giving in-built wifi and Bluetooth features, which helped me connect my Bose speakers to get a theater-like experience.
So, if you are okay with a lesser base and average volume with a clear voice, you can stick with provided internal speakers in this projector.
Connection
At the back of the unit, there are 2 HDMI, 2USB ports, a 3.5 mm jack, an antenna port, an ethernet port, and a single USB-c port.
These multiple ports will help charge your phone or do other things while using the projector.
Setup
The setup process can be much easier if you place this unit on the table. My wife put this unit on a coffee table.
Also, you can mount this unit on the ceiling, but you need to make adjustments and do proper image alignment before fixing it permanently on the top.
To get the screen size of 110″ inches, you need to place this model 11feet away from the screen or wall to get crisper and clear picture quality.
So, if you are planning to place it in a smaller room, you need to take the room’s dimensions, or it can be a hard time getting the bigger image size on the screen from a shorter distance.
When this unit is mounted on the ceiling, the picture is also adjusted with the LG magic remote, which helps you to adjust zoom or do keystone correction both vertically and horizontally.
Image Performance
If you want better lumens power projector and can project an image size of 120″ from a distance of 2.5 feet away then check out LG HU915qe.
In terms of picture quality, it comes with a lumens power of 1500ANSI, which will produce excellent picture quality when you are in a darker environment.
There are 4 picture modes the manufacturer has provided, which are sports mode, cinema mode, vivid, standard, etc.
While testing this projector, there are four modes in the menu option to set the different brightness levels.
While watching the live tv in cinema mode, the images were washed out, but when switched from cinema to sports mode, the quality was much better on the screen.
When watching movies, I have switched the projector into cinema mode. The picture quality was more realistic and sharp with the help of 4 times the pixels of full HD.
Also, I could not detect any rainbow effect despite using LG HU70LA for more than 20 days despite using a DLP chip inside the projector.
The dark scenes were darker and more detailed thanks to its contrast ratio of 150,000 while using a dynamic contrast ratio.
Pros
- Smart TV operating system.
- Hundreds of apps are loaded, eliminating the use of any streaming devices.
- In-built Wifi & Bluetooth Feature.
- It lets you control its zoom & keystone with the help of ‘magic LG remote control.’
- Multiple connection ports.
- The built quality is premium and compact, which will let you carry easily to have a nighttime movie with friends.
Cons
- The fan will start producing noise when the projector runs too long in standard mode.
- LG should have provided better internal speakers in this price range.
- It is not made for gaming.
Final Verdict
If you are looking for a viewing device that can be quickly taken from one place to another inside your home in different environments with an easy-to-use interface, then LG HU70LA will be perfect for you.
So, if you are looking for an HD Television for your room, I would suggest you opt for this projector at the same price with lots of other benefits.
But there are some disadvantages which are, that the lamp power is not that powerful to produce images in brighter conditions, and also you cannot use it for gaming due to its high lag time of more than 55ms.
