Many people find it difficult to mount or hang a projector screen when they have limited space in their office or at home.
So, they always look towards the solution of hanging projector screen from ceiling, getting the proper focus, and adjusting the images you want to project on the screen.
Before starting the process, there are some requirements: the proper space, height angle, and where you are going to place it.
So, you might have a proper instrument to hang the unit on ceilings, but still, you might need a helpful guide on how to do it correctly with easy-to-follow steps to hang the projector screen.
How To Hang Projector Screen From Ceiling?
You should be aware of multiple hanging brackets and mounts available in local or online stores with varying prices and qualities.
And we know every screen comes with different weights, heights, and lengths, so choose according to the space available to you before making the final purchase.
How to Decide the Placement
You must choose the location of the projector screen based on the available space in the planned area.
Another important consideration is the lighting around your projector screen. Darker surroundings or situations where there is controllable light are always preferable.
Also, take into consideration where you are going to place the screen. If you put it in a brighter environment where you don’t control lights, it can result in a poor projection experience.
Also, you will have to invest in a premium projector which has more lumens power.
Buy and Assemble the Mount
Once you have figured out where to place it, the next step is to get the mounting nuts and bolt for the mounting.
In the stores, you will find various types of mounting options. So, select according to the space you have in your hanging location.
The projector screens are available in various variants depending on size, price, and material.
You can hang the screen with the help of nails, and some need to be mounted on the ceiling (these are the ones with rollback-type screens).
Also, if you don’t have any budget issues, you can go with motorized screens.
Mostly the mounts will have multi-part dissembled packing, and the assembly part will be written in the user’s manual.
Each mount has a different way of assembly, depending on brand and model. So, explaining that procedure here would be illogical. Just follow the user’s manual, and you will be good to go.
Steps To Mount The Screen
Now that your Projector Screen is ready to be mounted, the ceiling needs to be prepared.
See how many ceiling adaptors your Projector Screen mount has, or will it require extra ceiling adaptors.
Some mounts levitate on two eyebolt screws, while others have three or four extensions attached to the ceiling.
The process depends on the weight and size of the Projector Screen. Let’s discuss the process in step by step method.
Step 1: Find The Studs
- The first thing you need to do is find the studs in your ceiling. It will help you place the anchors for hanging your projector screen from the top.
- To locate the studs, use a stud finder and hold it against different areas of your ceiling until you hear a “beep” sound.
- Now Mark these areas with a pencil or marker so that you can easily find them when you mount your screen.
- Repeat the process until all of the studs in your ceiling have been located by you.
Step 2: Drill The Holes
We need to drill holes in our ceiling to support the cable and mounting anchors. To do this, put one part of your screen’s mounting bracket into one end of the support cable attached to your anchor plate.
Again using your stud finder, find a stud nearby and make another mark on the ceiling where you need to drill a hole to run your other end through.
Ensure that your other end goes through a stud with an anchor bolt.
Once all of these have been drilled out, run both ends of your support cable through them.
Step 3: Mount The Anchor Plates To The Ceiling
The anchor plates will be used to hold screws or bolts that will attach both ends of our support cables. These cables will help to hang the projector screen from the ceiling.
These anchor plates come with a complete set with their screws.
Now you can either screw the bolts directly into the drywall around the area where you found your stud (If they already have holes).
Or you can drill a small hole with the help of a drill machine in the drywall and then screw the bolts into that. Anchor plates have an average size of 2 to 3 inches.
Once your anchor plate has been placed, it’s time to attach support cables inside the screw. Now you should have both ends attached to the anchor plates.
You must attach the cable securely and tighten it down with some force using a screwdriver.
Step 4: Mount Projector Screen From The Ceiling
Now it’s time to hang our projector screen from the ceiling. First, take a step ladder and place it against the wall or below the drill area where you want your screen to be mounted.
Make sure that the ladder is secure and won’t move while trying to mount your projector screen.
Next, find the center of your projector screen by measuring its width and then dividing that number by two.
Once you have found the center, take one end of the support cable and tie it into a knot as close to the end as you can get it.
After that, run this end through your projector screen’s wall mounting bracket and then thread it through the support cable until it reaches the other side of the anchor plate.
Once both ends of your support cables have reached their corresponding anchors, tighten down on them so that they don’t slip.
Once you have done this, attach one of the brackets on either side of your projector screen wall mounting bracket where your extension cord is plugged in by using a 3M strip.
How do I make sure that my projector screen is perfectly centered on the wall?
Many projector screens come with a built-in centering feature which will help to ensure that your projector screen is perfectly centered.
If your projector screen doesn’t have this feature, you can use a spirit level or even some masking tape to help achieve this.
What should I do if I want to move my projector screen to another location?
If you want to move your projector screen to another location, you will need to untie the knot at the end of the support cable and then reattach it at the other end.
Ensure that you do not tension the cable too much while doing this, or it could cause damage to your projector screen.
Can I use a different type of support cable?
While I do recommend using the support cables that come with your projector screen, you can use a different type of support cable as long as it can hold the weight of your projector screen.
Make sure that you double-check the weight limit before making any changes.
What should I do if my projector screen starts to drop over time?
If your projector screen starts to drop over time, you will need to tighten down the screws or bolts holding your screen’s mounting bracket in place.
If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace your support cable.
Can I hang my projector screen over doors or windows?
No, you should not hang your projector screen over doors or windows as this could cause damage to your screen and personal injury if someone were to walk through it.
If you have no budget limit, you can also have motorized projector screens that can be controlled through a remote. (The Opening and Rolling part).
Now that we have gone over everything you need to know about how to hang projector screen from ceiling, you should be able to do it yourself with little to no trouble.
Just make sure that you follow the instructions carefully, and you have all of the necessary tools and equipment to mount it correctly.
